Artist Statement

Most of my projects begin with inspiration from something I’m reading or watching, a place I’ve been, a fond memory, an interest, or something that’s important to someone close to me.

I create art that captures the balance between structure and spontaneity, blending the energy of life with a sense of calm. Using ink, watercolors, oils, and acrylics, I explore the beauty of imperfection and the stories hidden in everyday moments.

My style is loose but intentional, focusing on the essence of a subject rather than strict details. I aim to create work that feels alive, relatable, and authentic. I hope to connect viewers with the subtle details that make life extraordinary.

My Story

My journey to becoming an artist has been anything but linear. As a child and teenager, I loved sketching and drawing, but in high school, I focused on college prep classes and sports, never stepping into an art classroom.

In college, I initially pursued health sciences and sports medicine, but after struggling with chemistry, I pivoted. During my freshman spring semester, I took my first art class with Prof. Vruwink and spent the next three years immersed in glassblowing, jewelry making, drawing, and painting, ultimately earning a double major in Art and Business Management from Central College.

Uncertain about a career as an artist, I entered the workforce in banking and insurance—only to realize it wasn’t for me. I soon transitioned to the construction trades, where I’ve thrived as a carpenter and business owner for over 20 years.

About five years ago, I returned to art as a hobby. What began as a pastime has gradually reignited my passion and evolved into a professional pursuit. Thank you for being a patron of the arts and hopefully at some point, my art. Whether you consider buying one of my works or not, I encourage you to find and support your favorite local artists.
